For those looking for a unique perspective on the latest gaming news in a watchable format, the Sooner Gamescast is the podcast to keep an eye on.

Starring Joshua Watson and Josh Faggion and produced by Mason Miller, the Gamescast is a weekly podcast that streams every Friday at 2:30 PM on the OU Gaming Club Twitch channel. The hour and a half long show features the pair of Joshes reacting to and commenting on the latest gaming industry news.

Watson and Faggion have excellent chemistry on the screen, with Faggion often acting as the straight man to Watson’s antics. Observing this pair’s back and forth was endlessly entertaining.

Faggion and Watson keep the energy high and don’t linger on any topic for too long. I had the opportunity to sit in on their October 3rd podcast, where they discussed topics like EA’s recent $55 billion deal, a CCJ Hollow Knight: Silksongreview, Netflix and AI in gaming and more.

I was even able to go on air and talk about the recent release of Ghost of Yoteiand my initial impressions of the game.

The Gamescast, which launched in Spring 2025, is entirely student-led and created.

“I’ve been really inspired by this other news show for gaming called Kinda Funny Games,” Watson, the Production Lead for OU ECCI, said. “They’ve been doing this podcast since I was in middle school, and I’ve been watching it ever since then.”

After being inspired by Kinda Funny Games’s approach to gaming news, Watson approached the Director of OU ECCI, Mike “Moog” Aguilar, in Spring 2025 to pitch his podcast idea.

Aguilar was supportive, so Watson made a pitch deck and submitted it to the production lead at the time. He had a clear vision of who he wanted on his team, which included Faggion and Miller.

After coming to OU, Watson connected quickly with Faggion. “Our chemistry was so good that I thought, at the time, that he was the only person I would be able to facilitate a podcast with and have it feel so natural.”

Once Watson found his team, he had to create the skeleton for the Gamescast to work off of.

“Over spring break, I worked hard on getting all the assets put together,” Watson said. “We pretty much started right when we got back from spring break. We filmed on Saturdays, and it was always really fun.”

The Gamescast was originally prerecorded but shifted to a live format on OU Giving Day 2025, where it has remained a live production since.

While Watson is happy with the growth the Gamescast has had since launch, he wants to expand it even more in the future.

“We can only do so much with the space we have,” Watson said. “As far as expansion goes, it would be awesome to have a bigger space or collaborate with Gaylord more.”

The hunt for expansion has been a key aspect of the OU Gaming Club and OU ECCI, and Watson is also clamoring for it. He also wants to shift focus to reacting to and showcasing Crimson Collective Journal articles.

“I would love for all of our articles we source from to be in-house,” Watson said.

Watson and Faggion have recently started this effort, with the October 3rd podcast featuring a handful of CCJ articles. They analyzed News Writer Nora Reese’s Hollow Knight: Silksongreview and provided insightful commentary about it.

I had a blast watching Watson, Faggion and Miller at work, and I loved being a guest to their antics.
