On the morning of September 9th, 2026, Nintendo held a general Direct livestream featuring games coming to the Switch 2 later this year and early next year. Nintendo itself had a few announcements, highlighting some free updates, some Switch 2 Editions of Switch titles and some new releases.

Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy was announced, adding voice commands for Oatchi using the mic and the Dandori Academy expansion being added. This expansion adds challenges for you to collect treasure as quickly as possible. Exams are also held each week from Friday to Sunday for you to attempt with an online leaderboard. 72 stages will be released over time. This Switch 2 Edition will be released on November 12th, 2026.

We got a second look at Xenoblade Chronicles 3 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition, giving us a better look at the new mode, Hero’s Vault. Here, you will take on waves of enemies to fill up a gauge for upgrades. The upgrades include increasing your team’s stats, longer debuffs, or recruiting other allies, for example. Along with the new mode, they showed a new Hero being added to Xenoblade 3, Shimmer. She is a powerful attacker with Foresight, the ability to see into the future (I am surprised we did get to see her after four years).

Regarding free updates, we have a Mario Kart World free update that dropped following the Direct, which added SNES courses in the overworld to be playable in a more classic style in VS Race mode, along with two new Knockout Tour routes. Star Fox (2026) is also getting an update later this month for 4-player local and online play for battle mode, in addition to three new stages. Along with that announcement, Nintendo shadow-dropped Star Fox Adventures on GameCube Nintendo Classics for NSO.

Pokemon: Pokopia Expansion Pass DLC Part 2 was shown, adding accessories to wear on your player character and your Pokemon friends, with more to meet.

Kirby Air Riders had its final two amiibo announced: Sword Kirby & Dragoon and Noir Dedede & Hydra, releasing on November 12th, 2026. They also announced an upcoming event for the game.

The two biggest announcements from the Direct are Metroid Ravenous and Kirby and the World Beyond, both releasing in the first half of 2027. Ravenous seems to be a direct sequel to Metroid: Dread (2021), with Samus being stranded on a moon and having to survive while being hunted down by a new group. Following up the events of Dread, Samus is shown using her Metroid abilities to fight off her foes, draining them of their energy for herself. It will be an interesting sequel with her handling her newfound Metroid instincts of draining the energy of others. Along with it, three new amiibo were shown: a new Samus amiibo, a Chozo Statue amiibo and Samus in her Metroid Suit as seen in the trailer, which is exclusive to the game’s Special Edition. Ravenous will be released for the Switch 2 on January 28th, 2027.

Kirby and the World Beyond is the latest Kirby title, following Forgotten Lands in a 3D playstyle. Not much is shown outside a bit of gameplay—Kirby launching King Dedede through a fake landscape, a new character appearing, ending with Kirby cutting down the fake landscape and revealing a world beyond it. It has a release window of Spring 2027, and they noted how next year is the 35th Anniversary of the Kirby series.

There were a fair amount of third-party titles announced coming to the platform. To highlight a few:

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition is getting a Switch 2 version (not a Switch 2 Edition), running at 60 fps, with more enemies on screen, including all DLC for the game and having a harder difficulty option. There is save data transfer from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version. There is a digital discount for owners of the original. It will release on February 25th, 2027.

Monster Hunt Wilds is coming to Switch 2 on December 4, 2026, with the Ascendance expansion coming out in 2027.

Resident Evil 2, 3 and 4 remakes were announced to come out digitally on October 16th, 2026. Resident Evil 2 has the Deluxe Edition with all of its DLC, and Resident Evil 4 has the Gold Edition for its DLC.

We got another look at Mega Man: Dual Override, with Proto Man being shown as another playable character. You can also customize your chips for upgrades and more abilities. New amiibo were shown for Mega Man and Proto Man. Both the game and the amiibo will be released in Spring 2027.

Danganronpa 2×2 was shown, featuring a new look at Slayhem Mode, a new story with the same characters and location. Slayhem Mode takes place after an event that leads to Monokuma triggering a new killing game with new victims and culprits. They briefly show a new character that was not in the original Goodbye Despair. It will be released on January 14, 2027, for Switch and Switch 2.

Persona 4 Revival and Persona 6 were announced to be coming to the Switch 2, with Revival releasing in May 2027, a few months after it releases on other platforms.
