Nintendo announced two Directs for September 8th and 9th. Their usual general Nintendo Direct, along with a Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct a day before the general one. All we had going in was the teaser of the Ocarina of Time remake from June. Here is everything announced from the Direct.
After the opening performance for The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary, the creator of the series, Shigeru Miyamoto, revealed the logo and title for the previously announced Legend of Zelda movie as “The Legend of Zelda,” along with a release date of April 30, 2027. He did clarify that the reasoning for the lack of a subtitle for the movie will be seen with the movie. He finishes off by saying more will be shown at a later date.
At the Nintendo Museum, tickets will be themed after the anniversary for a limited time, along with a history board being added showing the games in the series. A new photo op will be up on November 5 of this year, and the museum will open the Super Family Restaurant in the fall, with Link appearing alongside other Nintendo characters.
The Zelda theme for the Nintendo Today! app will have new calendar animations. They have also added digital cards to collect in the app. More information about The Legend of Zelda movie will be shown there in the future.
Zelda-themed products will be released for the anniversary. Shown briefly were the Minoru Construct amiibo, a playable Ocarina of Time instrument and an electronic version, a Link and Epona LEGO set, figures of Link, Zelda and Ganondorf based on their Tears of the Kingdom iterations, an electronic Master Sword and a display piece of the Master Sword and Hylian Shield.
Famous Nintendo composer Koji Kondo announced the Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Concert. It will consist of a series of concerts, with confirmed dates across Japan, as well as confirmation that it will go overseas to the U.S., Europe and Australia. Tickets will go live later this month.
Finally, series producer Eiji Aonuma showcased the Ocarina of Time remake. It is a direct remake of the original with the aim of modernizing the original look for the Switch 2. There are some changes, with a manual jump, smoother combat, a free-roam camera in some areas and a few other additions that make use of the Switch 2 console. One interesting addition is using the Switch 2’s mic being able to recognize the melody of the songs in the game and play them if sung or played with an instrument. Another feature added to the Ocarina of Time remake is its compatibility with Zelda Notes on the Nintendo Switch app. It has some uses such as tracking your gameplay, note-taking, having quizzes related to the game and ocarina free play, where you can make your own music charts and share your compositions.
Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo were announced to be released with the game. Scan them to unlock a mask based on the original faces of the characters from the N64 game.
To be released before the game on October 29th, 2026, are a Switch 2 and Switch 2 Pro Controller themed around The Legend of Zelda for the 40th anniversary.
It will be interesting to see everything they will do for the anniversary, since they started with a full Direct. We’ll have to see what Nintendo has in store for fans for the next year.
